Michelle McDevitt-Askew graduated with a Masters in Christian Counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in January 2012. Michelle is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. For nine years Michelle has enjoyed working with couples, families and individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, chronic illness and life stage transitioning. It is her hope that in the safe, non-judgmental space of therapy clients can begin to discover their core resiliency, strengths and awareness for integrating healthy coping and communication skills for healing. She has a special appreciation for what it means to be a teen in todays’ world and enjoys working with adolescents (13 yrs and up). Michelle is attuned to help couples discover relational dynamics and patterns that keep them from enjoying a safe, close and vibrant relationship.
Michelle’s therapeutic experience in private practice, medical and church settings informs her approach to therapy interweaving a bio-medical-psycho-social and spiritual component to treat and care for the whole person. Her 32 year marriage and parenting experiences provides perspective and informs relationship work. As a parent of an adult child with Aspergers, Michelle has an awareness and appreciation of what a blessing it can be to have a special needs child and the impact that can make on a family. With a belief that individuals and families lean towards growth and resiliency, Michelle is looking forward to working with couples, families and individuals of Providence Presbyterian Church and the surrounding community. She looks forward to working alongside clients, equipping them for transformational growth.
Michelle is also available to Supervise LMFT-A’s as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor-Candidate. With a desire to equip and encourage therapist newly entering the field of clinical therapeutic work, Michelle offers both individual and group supervision.
